Why Did We Create ADESH?

Today's sophisticated technologies, research and development of materials require help from many different tools.Defects in materials affect the properties and performance of the product. To control defect formation, experts agree on the need to understand materials properties at an atomistic level.
Hence, ADESH!
ADESH is used in academic, research and industrial settings to corroborate experimental observations and to predict materials' behaviour under various processing conditions and strain levels.
Defect configurations are obtained by a three step procedure:
(a) First, a defect free cell is constructed (ADESH uses all fourteen Bravais lattices and entire periodic table)
(b) Next a defect is introduced (vacancies, impurities, dislocations, grain boundaries, stacking faults, hetero-structures, voids, precipitates etc.)
(c)Finally, the energetics of the lattice is studied using appropriate potential functions (two body, three body or ionic) and energy minimization techniques (e.g. Static, Monte-Carlo, Simulated Annealing etc.).
ADESH is a software tool that can be used in conjunction with experimental observations and the traditional theoretical principles, to control defects and to improve materials' qualities.
A graphic cell viewer displays atomic positions and energy contours (i.e. strain) in the lattice. This approach permits one to compare the defect configurations, their energy, and to identify the driving forces that nucleate them. Combined with the experimental observations, continuum mechanics, ADESH is a powerful tool to design processing strategies for improving the yield.
ADESH 2.1 runs on PC-DOS. It also runs on other platforms when a DOS window is opened. Other platforms: Windows (3.1 and 95), MAC, UNIX workstations, VMS etc.
If it costs you just one "programmer" week to write, debug, test and validate a program to do SOME of the aforementioned tasks,
ADESH will ... ... ... SAVE YOU
